California Noise Laws
The State of California is very progressive with many different regulations on the environment. This includes air pollution, water pollution and (our topic) noise pollution. The “general law written for the State of California” states:
“California Noise Laws. Health and Safety Code 46000. … (f) All Californians are entitled to a peaceful and quiet environment without the intrusion of noise which may be hazardous to their health or welfare. (g) It is the policy of the state to provide an environment for all Californians.”
More detailed noise ordinances and noise codes are written by local cities. These slightly vary city by city but generally state “not to exceed” decibel levels during the day and during the night.
Los Angeles Noise Ordinance
For example, the City of Los Angeles details not to exceed 45 dB (decibels) at night in residential property zone: (see chart below)
Noise Zone | Designated Noise Zone Land Use (Receptor property) | Time Interval | Exterior Noise Level (dB) |
I | Noise-sensitive area | Anytime | 45 |
II | Residential properties | 10:00 pm to 7:00 am (nighttime) | 45 |
7:00 am to 10:00 pm (daytime) | 50
III | Commercial properties | 10:00 pm to 7:00 am (nighttime) | 55 |
7:00 am to 10:00 pm (daytime) | 60
IV | Industrial properties | Anytime | 70 |
Each local, including the Bay Area, Santa Monica, San Diego, Orange County, etc. all have written noise ordinances that eNoise Control can help you decipher and navigate.
Construction Site Sound Blankets
Construction projects have their challenges with noise control due to the nature of heavy mechanical equipment needed to move earth, dig foundations, erect building structures, and such. Specifiers and contractors can use our perimeter construction site sound blankets to help lower, mitigate and dampen noise from the construction site to the neighboring property.
Typically, a perimeter fence will be installed around the job site for safety and containment needs. Our exterior rated sound blankets come with grommets (eyelets) for easy attachment to your fencing. You can use plastic ties or stainless wire ties to secure the blankets to the chain link fencing. This provides a visual and noise barrier from the construction site.
eNoise Control stocks these sound blankets for ready shipment. We do offer buyback after the job is complete (please reach out for details on this program. It typically takes about 4 days to ship to the West Coast. Our sound blankets are proven/tested to handle the elements of rain, wind, UV rays, snow, etc. We have worked with many companies and local municipalities in California. We look forward to working with you and your team for your construction site noise control project.
